I pulled the logs from Sure-As-The-Sun-Rises mech. You were right to look into it. Most of it is garbled, but there is something interesting. Max didn’t take control of their mech. The co-pilot handed full control over to them before final shutdown could occur. I am still not putting together how this connects to the robbery, but it does shed light on Palladium. I assume that there had to be some kind connection between they and Hope-For-The-Harvest. I’ve already begun to cross reference incidents like these from our war records. Any word about No-Merit? What they took when they left?

Commander Hope For The Harvest, I pull those records for Max Sure-As-The-Sun-Rises that you requested. To be honest, I don’t think there is anything here we can use. They had a good service record. Honorably discharged. Hell, they even were in the fight on Hazard against the separatists. According to this they even piloted their mech without a co-pilot system, which probably explains the nerve damage in the record. I’m not seeing what they have to do with the robbery.

After that things got kind of weird. Still not readings but there were these weird data burst from the station.

Max? Max? It’s me, No-Merit. I know you don’t want to talk to me anymore, but I found them. I thought they were gone but...You need to get them. They’ll be transporting them soon. He was a Marshal. The rumor was he had fought for the separatists during the war, but I don’t know how he would have been a Marshal if that was true. He had some kind of history with the mech though. Kicked us out of the room when he was interacting with it. It was supposed to be a closed room, but, well, audio recorders are small. He talked to it like they were friends. Chatted about the good old days. Still nothing though, well, until he mentions someone named Graham.

That response was all we got for months. Over and over we tried to get the mech to respond using anything we could think of. Nothing. It was maddening. If I hadn’t had the record of the response I would have thought I dreamt it. When we felt like we had reached our limit, the commander of the Sunsphere brought someone new on to the team. Not a researcher, but a marshal. Some guy named No-Merit Vernal.

We began running tests on the mechs systems and right away there was something different. The baselines were all off. It acted like it was still reacting to outside stimuli even though it was in standby, but that was it. We couldn’t get it out of standby. We couldn’t access any diagnostic records. Nothing. Finally, staring at my console after days, I asked myself, “What are you?” and the text on my read out replied “Palladium”

OK, so I could be thrown in prison just for making this, but I need to document what’s happening. Three years ago I was brought in from the private sector to The Sunsphere. Some kind of military contract. AI work. It seemed routine at first. Getting more out of the AI, making improvements. That sort of thing. Then, ah shit, then one day they show up with the beat to hell mech. And, jeez, this sounds like something out of a movie, but, well, that’s when everything changed.

It’s a shame that you were not able to get more than baseline responses from the sample, but even that will allow us to explore this matter further. Of course, standard security protocol will be implemented. Now the experiment is over, you will need to dispose of the sample. We are making progress, Commander, slow that it might be. Many of these worlds had...interesting points of entry, but I spread my influence to them nonetheless. My agent, loyal as always, was my herald of sorts. Setting the gears into motion for my arrival.
