We Are All In The Gutter was squeamish about it, but the brains are beginning to pay off. The data they produce is not easy to parse out, but I think I am beginning to see the pattern. If I’m right, this tear is much different than I thought. More of a bleed, like we’re seeing with the other planes. The team has to deal with one of their worst nightmares made real as they descend to the lowest part of the ship, and face Stanton again, maybe for the last time.

Yes, We Are All In The Gutter, I am aware I placed the boat out in the open. Traps need bait, or are the elves that detached that they’ve forgotten how to hunt? I know you see little need in dealing with the… heroes, but I can tell you from experience that they have a habit of finding ways to jam the gears. Yes, the projects are coming along nicely. My use of the siphoned energy is making for some amazing results.

It’s been so hard to sleep these last few days. All I can hear when I close my eyes is the clock ticking down. I know Tseer and Awakening are concerned about me. Hell, I think even Tessa is worried. I must be at rock bottom. It’s just, the heart and this engine. I feel like I am on the edge of a break though if I can just get there. I wish I had some fucking equipment. I wonder if Enix kept up my lab? Hell, I wonder if Enix is still in the city? That feels like a lifetime ago. I was a different person then. Detached. Cold. Confident.

The team finishes a lovely dinner and finally get down to business. They are making their play against Stanton and their plan couldn’t be better.

I can tell that Ada and We Are All In The Gutter are worried about me, but I need to focus. I had to move my lab off-site. It seems like others had trouble finding this place. Mixing this energy with my other work has proven fruitful. It’s versatile in ways just plain flesh isn’t, so long as I can keep up the shipments of new specimens. The fey creatures are proving to be wonderful canvases on which to work, and the delivery drivers are a great source of raw materials.

The team prepares for dinner. Just a regular, not-with-an-antagonistic-god kind of dinner. Everyone will be on their best behavior, and not a single outburst will happen.

Some of you may know what I do as a night gig, and it’s that last part I want to talk to you about. Chaos rocks the quarantine area as explosions rip through the eastern section of the city. Tensions have been on the rise as the alleged supply shipment disruptions have picked up. Citizens interviewed have said that a fight between rival criminal organizations escalated to a fevered pitch. The official report from the city guard says otherwise, with them blaming a poorly maintained industrial site for the explosions. With the heated situation in the quarantine zone, tensions on the east side of the river have never been higher.

The fact that a man as smart as Stanton Slayton thinks that he can fight fire with fire is astounding. I mean, it’s great for us, just surprising really. Ego is such a wonderful tool. It’s versatile and effective in way things like fear, or intimidation don’t even touch. With every one of those new, little projects he brings into this cage of a world, I can feel more of my reality seap in. Soon, our little ember is gonna be an inferno, because the only thing that happens when you fight fire with fire is you make the fire worse.

Battered and bruised, the team try to collect themselves and find their lost member, but Ada and Stanton have put together something new to stand in their way.
